Agriculture and food security encompass the availability, access, utilization, and stability of food supplies. Food security is crucial for improving health, promoting economic growth, and ensuring sustainable development. Our research focuses on understanding the dynamics of food systems and the factors that impact food security at local, national, and global levels.

The Agriculture and Food Security Projects aims to enhance sustainable agricultural practices and ensure food security for communities facing climate and economic challenges. By promoting climate-smart agriculture, supporting smallholder farmers, and strengthening local food systems, the project fosters resilience against climate change impacts and market fluctuations. Additionally, we aim to provide training and resources to empower local farmers, particularly women and youth, to increase their productivity, income, and food security, contributing to healthier and more prosperous communities.

Ensuring Sustainable Food Systems for All

At Real Link Centre Research and Capacity Building, we are committed to advancing research and initiatives that promote sustainable agriculture and enhance food security. Our work addresses the complex challenges facing global food systems and seeks to develop innovative solutions that support resilience and equity.

Research Areas

  1. Sustainable Agricultural Practices: Investigating farming methods that enhance productivity while minimizing environmental impacts. Our research explores agroecology, organic farming, and integrated pest management to promote sustainable agricultural systems.
  2. Food Production and Supply Chains: Analyzing the entire food supply chain, from production to consumption, to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement. We study the impacts of market access, transportation, and storage on food security.
  3. Nutrition and Food Quality: Examining the relationship between agricultural practices and nutrition outcomes. Our research focuses on promoting diverse diets and improving the nutritional quality of food produced.
  4. Climate Change and Agriculture: Assessing the impacts of climate change on agricultural systems and exploring adaptive strategies. We investigate how to build resilience in farming practices to withstand climate variability and extreme weather events.
  5. Policy and Governance: Evaluating the effectiveness of policies related to agriculture and food security. Our research aims to inform evidence-based policy-making that supports equitable and sustainable food systems.

Project Initiatives

  • Community Farming Programs: We implement initiatives that empower local communities to adopt sustainable agricultural practices. Through training and support, we help farmers improve their yields and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Food Security Assessments: Our projects include conducting assessments of food security in vulnerable communities. By identifying gaps and challenges, we work collaboratively to develop targeted interventions that enhance access to nutritious food.
  • Nutrition Education Campaigns: We engage communities in education initiatives that promote healthy eating and nutrition. Our programs focus on raising awareness about the importance of diverse diets and food preparation practices.
  • Research and Advocacy: We conduct research that informs advocacy efforts for food security policies. By sharing our findings with stakeholders, we aim to influence decision-making processes and promote sustainable food systems.
