At Real Link Centre for Research and Capacity Building, we are dedicated to advancing knowledge and practices in the field of accessibility and inclusive innovations through quality research. Our research aims to engage stakeholders in the innovation domain to enhance the efforts of ensuring that innovations are usable by everyone, regardless of ability or disability. We achieve this through various methodologies including but not limited to embracing of the frugal innovation frameworks.

Research Areas

  1. Digital Accessibility: We work with partners and stakeholders to unravel emerging issues and challenges related to emerging technologies design, deployment, and governance to ensure digital equity in terms of access and adoption for users with varying abilities. This includes working with partners to promote usability testing, user experience research, and the development of guidelines for creating accessible digital platforms.
  2. Universal Design: Exploring principles of universal design that cater to a diverse population. This research domain emphasizes on working with stakeholder in providing evidence on sustainable products and environmentally conscience outputs that are inherently accessible to all, without the need for adaptation.
  3. Assistive Technologies: We believe in an all inclusive innovation framework. As such, this domain of research contributes towards examining the effectiveness of various assistive technologies that aid individuals with disabilities. This includes studying their impact on daily life and identifying areas for innovation.
  4. Inclusive Education: Education matters to us, and most importantly, inclusivity and the principle of leaving no one behind is at the core of our mission and vision. To this end, we have considered this domain of research and commit to work with our stakeholders in investigating strategies to make educational environments more accessible and inclusive for students with disabilities through digital interventions. This includes curriculum design, classroom technology, and teacher training.

Our Research Initiatives

  • Collaborative Projects: We partner with organizations, communities, and other researchers to tackle pressing accessibility challenges. These collaborations foster innovation and broaden the impact of our findings.
  • User-Centered Studies: Our research prioritizes the perspectives of individuals with disabilities. By involving users in the research process, we gain valuable insights that inform more effective and meaningful solutions.
  • Dissemination of Knowledge: We share our findings through publications, conferences, and workshops. By contributing to the broader discourse on accessibility, we aim to influence policies and practices that promote inclusivity.
